Every day North Mid has an impact all over the world. Whether that is caring for patients from different countries, working with colleagues from different
continents, or cultures. It’s one of our biggest strengths.

Outside of Haringey and Enfield, colleagues from across the Trust have been going that extra mile – quite literally – to ensure North Mid is world-famous.
From North Mid to Senegal, to Denmark, to India – here’s a snapshot:

Sharing knowledge in Senegal

For the past 12 years, Jean McDonald has been taking teams of junior doctors, specialist nurses and urology staff from North Mid and across the NHS to visit Dakar as part of an initiative she organised to exchange knowledge, training and provide vital medical equipment.

Her work in Senegal has been instrumental and on her most recent visit, where she took Rachel Oliver, Omololu Ajayi and Patrick Mensar from North Mid, they helped educate local Senegalese doctors in the new gold standard technique for prostate biopsy. For both UK and Senegalese men, prostate cancer remains the most common cancer diagnosis, yet mortality rates in West Africa are significantly higher than in the UK.

The team conducted a series of lectures and hands-on training sessions teaching the Senegalese team and delivered equipment donated from the UK, including a Jean and the team B&K medical ultrasound machine.
