Members of North Mid’s executive team and estates and facilities department joined colleagues from R G Carter – the construction firm contracted to building our multistorey car park (MSCP) - at the top of the facility on Thursday 2 December 2022 to view the project’s progress to date and participate in the project’s momentous ‘topping out’ ceremony.

Dating back centuries, topping out is a construction tradition which recognises and celebrates the achievement of reaching an important milestone on a project – for North Mid’s car park, this was the tightening of the final bolt on a steel support beam.

North Mid’s chief executive Dr Nnenna Osuji, director of strategic development Richard Gourlay and Trust estate strategic development manager Chris Kelly used the opportunity to each take a turn at tightening the bolt. Our Trust chair, Mark Lam, was also in attendance to participate the proceedings.

The new staff-only car park will consolidate the 450 car park spaces previously available across the hospital site into one single location. On opening, this purpose-built facility will initially offer 45 electric car charging spaces to users but as demand increases, every space will be able to be converted – helping to support and deliver the Trust’s sustainability strategy.

The MSCP project remains on track and is scheduled to be completed in the new year by February 2023. For the latest information about the project, visit our MSCP page.
