What is the discharge lounge?
The discharge lounge at North Mid is a newly refurbished area which offers a calm, welcoming space. It has been designed to make your final steps before leaving the hospital as relaxing and stress-free as possible. You will have access to everything you need to feel at ease while we finalize your discharge arrangements, like prescriptions, transport, or family pick-up.

Tea and coffee will be provided whilst you wait. The discharge lounge offers full meal options, including a hot meal service catering to most dietary needs, available upon request.

Who will look after you?
Our dedicated discharge lounge team is here to support you every step of the way:
Registered nurses will support you to ensure that you understand the next steps in your journey home or ongoing care. Explain your discharge arrangements and any medication in detail so you are fully informed and aware of the next steps. They will ensure a safe and timely discharge from the hospital.
Healthcare assistants support our registered nurses with hydration, nutritional, or daily activity needs. Our discharge lounge team and the transfer ward will organize any transport requirements, ensuring that the proper transport is booked the first time. They will also prepare any paperwork for you to take home and keep everything in the lounge running smoothly. The nurse-in-charge is identifiable with a red nurse-in-charge badge.
Opening hours and location
- Open: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8pm.
- Location: The ground floor of Pymmes Building, formerly Mary Seacole ward.
Who can use the discharge lounge?
All adult patients are exempt from infection control barriers and ready for discharge will be transferred to the discharge lounge. A member of the discharge lounge team will come to your ward and ensure a comfortable journey down to our lounge.
