Biography

Dr Elizabeth Fajemirokun joined the anaestheic department of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (North Mid) in 2008 as a locum consultant at a time of proposed expansion in services and her appointment was made substantive one year later.

She had been a registrar at North Mid from March 2000 to September 2001, leaving to complete her anaesthetic postgraduate training in the South East London Training Scheme of the London Deanery, specialising in major vascular and obstetric anaesthesia but determined to return to be a part of the development that was being proposed at the time for North Mid.

She obtained her basic medical degree in Nigeria, obtaining a BSc (Health Sciences) in 1982; and MBChB in 1985 both at the University of Ife and had worked in Nigeria for some years where she started her anaesthetic training before moving over to the United Kingdom.

She further obtained a diploma in anaesthesia in 1997 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) in 1998.

In 2002, she returned to part time undergraduate education for four years to obtain a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Greenwich in June 2006.

Her dissertation was titled: Professional Medical Error Litigation: A Critical Analysis of Negligence in Contemporary Medical Law.

Elizabeth joined NMUH when the anaesthetic consultant workforce was five and she is now part of a team of nineteen consultant colleagues helping to deliver safe anaesthetic to the surrounding communities.

She led the obstetric anaesthesia team from 2014 to 2019 and is currently a clinical supervisor and a consultant appraiser.
