Gynaecology is the medical practice that deals with the health of the female reproductive system, such as the vagina, ovaries and breasts.
Our team of gynaecologists at the Royal Free London diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions that affect only women — from fungal infections, pelvic pain and period problems through to more serious conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer.
We also treat fertility conditions, menopause and early pregnancy symptoms, as well as performing hysterectomy surgery.

A letter of referral from a GP to the gynaecology consultants is needed in order to get an initial appointment, unless being referred from the emergency department.
All GP referrals need to register in the emergency department before attending the emergency gynaecology unit.
Electronic referrals from a GP may be made through the NHS e-Referral Service. Tertiary referrals from other hospital consultants are also available.
Once a referral is made, the patient is asked to call the hospital and to make an appointment at their convenience.
